Nancy is the daughter of Larry Martinsen from Lisbon, North Dakota and Christie Martinsen from Cebu City, Philippines. She is the youngest (only daughter) and has two older brothers. She attended California State University Monterey Bay and earned a B.A. in Human Communications with an emphasis in Journalism and Media Studies. At San Jose State University, she earned her M.A. in Education with an emphasis in Educational Counseling. In December of 2017, she earned her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at San Francisco State University and wrote a dissertation entitled, “Supporting Pacific Islander Student Success in Higher Education through Culturally Sustaining Leadership.” She currently works at Cal State East Bay as the Asian Pacific American Student Success Coordinator where she supports Asian Pacific Islander student initiatives on campus. Nancy has been actively involved with NPIEN since 2009 and currently holds the President position for Northern California Chapter of NPIEN ending 2018.
